The CVR – Centre for Waste Valorisation is a private non-profit institution set up in Braga, by public deed in July 2002, which provides technical, research and development services in the area of prevention, treatment and recovery of solid waste, liquid effluents, gaseous effluents, soils, biofuels and fuels derived from waste.

The CVR is located in Guimarães, integrated in the Campus of the University of Minho, having its own laboratory facilities with 2000 m2 of covered area, where it develops its activities. Its organizational structure includes the Laboratories for Waste Characterization, Gas Emissions, Noise Evaluation, Materials and Geotechnics and the Department of Research and Technological Development.

To carry out its activities, the CVR currently has 14 permanent staff members, including technicians and researchers, as well as external collaborations with about two dozen researchers from Portuguese and international universities and technological centres. The constituent members of the CVR are the Minho Industrial Association, the Portuguese Foundry Association, TecMinho and the University of Minho. CVR has 82 founding members and adherents of different typologies, namely companies in the foundry industry, wastewater management and waste management services, metalworking industry, ceramics industry, paper industry, construction industry, technological centres, municipal entities and non-profit public institutions, which corresponds to an associative patrimony of € 844,000.00.
